BOOKWORM.

I am an avid reader. Books rock.

It's really exciting because I'm getting a signed copy of Cassandra Clare's new book Clockwork Princess! AHH!

So annoying, though, how my friends keep spoiling the book for me =_= ugh. But I'm so pumped to read it still.

I'm not really sure where this post is going but it was really annoying this morning because daylight savings just ended and we turned out all muddled with the clocks and all. Geez.

Oh that's right! I'm reading The Lord of the Rings right now. Once you get past the REAAAALLY boring bit where they're in the Old Forest just strolling around, it gets better.

I'm also reading The Great Gatsby on my phone - yes, iBooks isn't that bad. It's weird because I used to hate e-books with a vengeance but ever since I've downloaded all these FREE(!) books and realised how refreshingly convenient it is to read on a device, I've been tame. Books are still better though.

It is so strangely satisfying to buy a new book (or old book, depending on whether you're a hipster or not) and read it. The pages just feel so real.

Well I guess that should be about it. If you want to read any of the books, buy them at a bookstore, on your electronic whiz machines or borrow them from your library. Who said you had to return them? ;)

Ryan Henderson

Ok. I go through A LOT of phases. But I've discovered the most amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing musician from Brisbane, Australia - Ryan Henderson.
Ryan pretty much makes acoustic covers of acoustic songs but his voice is just AH asdfhjklafjsdlf.

I also love his hair. He's like a Harry Styles meets Carrot Top :3 continue.

This cover of The Paper Kites' 'A Maker Of My Time' (CRAZILY good song, check it out) is amazing. His voice is quite unexpected, really.

Neil Young's 'Heart Of Gold' is pretty much only known by people currently going through their mid-life crisis and 70s hipsters.

So far I don't think he has a website or anything and because I don't have facebook (fancy that, hey?) I don't really know if he has a page. If you enjoyed it I guess you should subscribe and like or do whatever people that actually leave their house do. I'll be here with my imaginary cat.

MUSIC HAUL #1

I love music. More than I love you.

It just happens that some amazing stuff has been released this month (SEMPITERNAL!!!!!) and I've been really excited about the epicness of it all.

Here's the Top Three songs I'm listening to right now (excluding the Song of the Week):

1. Can You Feel My Heart - Bring Me The Horizon

This album has been the most exciting thing of this month. Sempiternal has exceeded all expectations and although their sound has changed heaps, I love it. It's much less heavy and to hear Oli sing has made my life complete. I wouldn't say it's Bring Me The Dubstep, but new guy Jordan Fish on keyboard has probably thrown in those little bleep bloops.

2. Old Parades - Archers

These guys are from Adelaide, Australia and you can check them out at triple j unearthed.
This track starts with a simple bass line (listen with headphones to hear it more clearly) and when the guitar is added on top, you're hooked. The guitar does some pretty solid stuff with a few solos and fillers. The chorus is refreshingly upbeat and it's just an awesome song.
As they're a local act maybe hit them up at a gig or something - support new Aussie talent!

3. Works Better On Paper - Let's Buy Happiness

These guys are dreamy indie pop from England, and their vocalist is amazing. Her voice and the guitars just float around, while the bass and drums keep it grounded. It's such a great song to listen to when you're taking it easy - it's so calming yet still actually has substance. It does get a little repetitive but I find it so catchy.

WISH LIST

Okay. So I've just finished most of my assessments and now it's that weird period of downtime right before the holidays.
I've just been browsing the internet, watching YouTube vids and messing around on Instagram (follow meeeeeee @girlwhosenameisntnaomie) when I should be watching the new episode of Doctor Who (!!!) or Suits or Homeland or engaging in conspiracy theories with the rest of the Sherlock fandom...

Given my annoying brattiness and narcissism, I've made a list of stuff that I seriously want. Obviously some of this is going to be impossible, but as the irritating kid that I am, I don't care.

1. These Docs.

Aren't they to die for?!

These are amazing. Continue.

 

2. To read the books and watch the Harry Potter films.

I haven't actually ever watched or seen any Harry stuff, and my friends are all hardcore Potter fans. I've seen half an hour of Goblet of Fire...? Seeing people's reaction when I tell them that I've never watched them is like telling them I have an extra belly button, or that I'm descended from Moses.

 

3. To meet Asa Butterfield.

Asa Butterfield is the German boy from The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Hugo in Hugo, Ender in Ender's Game and a pretty awesome fellow.

Excuse my fangirling. Ahem.

 



4. Grab a Kombi Van and go to every music festival I can get to.

This kind of speaks for itself. I love music, festivals and Kombi Vans. Yay peace.

5. For this blog to actually go somewhere.

I think I'm writing this to myself, really. In twenty years time, I'll see that the only pageviews were me desperately checking to see if anyone ever saw this. This will also look really stupid in twenty years time. That is if I haven't blown up the world yet.

 

So I guess there's the five things I'd love to have or be or whatever. I'll probably add to it every now and then. If I even return to this blog. Sigh.

Fester by Dutch Uncles

This week's song is by English band Dutch Uncles, 'Fester'. It's full of bright xylophones, jagged time signature changes and some killer dissonant chords. And the vocals rock.
